My Personal Story

My journey into fitness didn’t begin in a gym. It began at one of the darkest moments of my life.

At 29, I lost a baby over halfway through pregnancy. The grief was unbearable, and instead of healing, I blamed myself. I didn’t process the trauma — I buried it. And in that silence, I turned to emotional eating to cope. When I became pregnant again, the fear, anxiety, and unhealed wounds followed me. I gained almost five stone and later delivered my daughter through an emergency C-section.

I pushed my weight gain to the back of my mind. I poured everything into being a mum, but privately, I no longer recognised the woman staring back at me in the mirror. There was denial… and there was pain I still wasn’t ready to face.

Two and a half years later, I had my son — and the experience changed my life forever. A catastrophic uterine rupture turned my labour into a life-threatening emergency. The recovery was long, slow, and emotionally devastating. My son struggled at the start of his life, and again, I blamed myself. That guilt consumed me. I disconnected from my own body. I punished it. I abused it. I felt like a stranger inside myself — miles away from the strong, fit woman I once was.

But approaching my late 30s, something shifted. I knew something had to change. I slowly started focusing on my nutrition, moving my body, and eventually, I discovered strength training — and it lit a spark in me I thought I had lost forever.

It wasn’t easy. Walking into the weights section felt intimidating. I felt like I didn’t belong there. But I forced myself to keep showing up. Set by set, week by week, I built confidence. My body composition changed. The scales no longer controlled me — how I felt, how I moved, and how I saw myself became far more important.

Now at 45, I’m preparing for the next phase of womanhood. I’m focused on staying strong, building muscle, and protecting my long-term health so that I can remain independent, vibrant, and capable for the years ahead.

Strength training didn’t just change my body — it brought me home to myself.

I share my story because so many women walk this same road silently: pregnancy trauma, emotional eating, hormonal shifts, weight gain, perimenopause, guilt, shame, and the overwhelming feeling of losing yourself.

If that is you, please know this:
You are not broken. You are not too far gone. You are not alone.
And you absolutely can rebuild your strength — physically and emotionally.

My mission now is to help other women reclaim their power, build confidence through strength, and feel at home in their bodies again.

New Year, New Me!
I decided to invest in myself this year as I have been feeling really deflated with my body and self confidence. I am not brand new to the gym, but I would still consider myself a beginner but I feel confident enough to self lead.
I saw FEMFITNESS posts on social media and I was intrigued as I found Fiona to be very warm, friendly and relatable and that she understood. After some thought, I  purchased the 12 week Menopause Strength Training plan and have not looked back. The app is very user friendly and the workouts are very well put together and easy to understand.
I am excited to see how I progress further in the gym now I have some guidance.
